ABOUT THE BIRDING
Ugii Lake is a large freshwater lake west of Ulaanbaatar. It's average depth is only 20ft. It's surrounded by steppe grassland. It's a major stopover for migratory waterfowl as well as an important breeding area. It's a good place to see waterfowl such as Bar-headed Goose, Graylag Goose, Swan Goose, Taiga Bean-Goose, Eastern Spot-billed Duck, Red-crested Pochard, and Stejneger's Scoter. Other notable species include Demoiselle Crane, the rare White-naped Crane, Common Crane, numerous shorebirds, gulls, and terns, Pallas's Fish-Eagle, White-tailed Eagle, and a variety of passerines. Rarities such as Mute Swan, Falcated Duck, Smew, and Far-Eastern Curlew are possible.
