ABOUT THE BIRDING

Buuntsagaan Lake, also called Buun Tsagaan Lake, is a large saline lake in central Mongolia. It's part of a complex of desert lakes that forms the Ramsar Wetland of the Gobi Desert. It's situated in an arid valley between the Khangain Mountains of central Mongolia and the Gobi Altai Mountains farther south. It's one of the largest lakes in the region and is the best place to see the rare Relict Gull. Numerous waterfowl are present at the lake during migration and breeding seasons in addition to Relict Gull. Some of the interest birds present during breeding season are Bar-headed Goose, Swan Goose, Pallas's Sandgrouse, Pallas's Gull, Mongolian Gull, Black-faced Bunting, and Pallas's Bunting.

LOCATION OF SITE

Buuntsagaan Lake is located about 4 hours drive southwest of the city of Arvaikheer in central Mongolia.
