ABOUT THE BIRDING

Gun Galuut is an accessible nature reserve that offers a combination of wetlands, lakes, rivers, steppe grassland, and mountains. Twin Lake and Ayaga Lake are excellent for migratory and breeding season waterfowl and shorebirds including Bar-headed Goose, Swan Goose, Whooper Swan, Baikal Teal, Ruff, Relict Gull, Mongolian Gull, and various widely distributed terns and shorebirds. The steppe grassland and Kherlen River is home to raptors such as Cinereous Vulture, Steppe Eagle, Upland Buzzard, Amur Falcon, and Saker Falcon. The steppe is also home to various grassland birds including Mongolian Lark, Pallas's Grasshopper Warbler, Richard's Pipit, Meadow Bunting, Little Bunting, and Black-faced Bunting. The Tsenglin Burd Wetland is home to Daurian Partridge, Japanese Quail, Demoiselle Crane, sometimes Siberian Crane, White-naped Crane, Hooded Crane, and Black Stork.
