ABOUT THE BIRDING
The montane forest near the town of Bat-Ulzii in the Khangai Mountains of central Mongolia is home to a number of interesting birds. The forest consists of conifers and larches that covers the northern slopes and vallyes in the Tarvagatai Range of the Khangai at elevations of 6600-8500 ft. The larch are above the valley floor and are home to Black-billed Capercaillies. Also present are the always difficult to see Hazel Grouse, Black Grouse, Daurian Partridge, along with Oriental and Common Cuckoos, a variety of raptors, Ural Owl, Siberian Rubythroat, Taiga Flycatcher, Rufous-backed Redstart, Siberian Stonechat, Pallas's Rosefinch, and Pine Bunting.

Bat-Ulzii is located in the Khangai Mountains of central Mongolia. It's located 630km southwest of Ulanbataar, about 7 hours drive without stopping.
