ABOUT THE BIRDING
The Kinangop plateau is a highland plateau of grassland, tussuck bogs, and swampy valleys. A small 95-ha plot is preserved as the Kinangop Plateau Nature Preserve. Much of the plateau is being rapidly converted to small-scale cultivation. A primary target bird is the Sharpe's Longclaw, which is endangered due to habitat destruction. The Kinangop Plateau is one of the main locations for seeing this species.
LOCATION OF SITE
The Kinangop Plateau is located about 25km north of the Gatamaiyu Forest and is reached from the main Nairobi-Naivasha Road. It lies on the western slope of the Aberdare Mountains.
