ABOUT THE BIRDING
Lake Baringo is the northern-most lake in the Rift Valley. It has a surface area of 130 sq km (50 sq mi). It's slightly alkaline as the lake has no obvious outflow, but in terms of birds it's basically a freshwater lake like Lake Naivasha. The area is the southern-most range of Jackson's Hornbill, which is very common at Baringo. The lake is surrounded by scrub vegetation that is home to Three-banded Courser and Lichtenstein's Sandgrouse. Some 480 bird species have been recorded in the park, and it's possible to see over 200 species in a day. The lake is also home to a large population of crocodiles and hippos.
LOCATION OF SITE
Lake Baringo National Park is located 290 km north of Nairobi and 160 km north of Naivasha along the B4 highway.
