Accommodations in the cities are at moderately priced hotels. Some of these require climbing up one or more flights of stairs. Accommodations at Calabaza above Satipo are in a very basic community center that has rooms separated by wafer board partitions, has no doors in the doorways, and has only a single, shared bathroom. Two nights will be spent in a working hacienda that offers private rooms for birders. The rooms are comfortable there and the meals are quite good, but everyone must share a single bathroom, which does have hot water in the shower.
