ABOUT THE BIRDING

Pha Pru is a large peat swamp outside Bala Wildlife Sanctuary in south Thailand. It's the only place in Thailand to see Malaysian Blue Flycatcher and the best place to see Fluffy-backed Tit-Babbler. There is also an open area a few kilometers from the headquarters where the rare Lesser Adjutant and Gray-headed Fish-Eagle have been seen before. Normally, one visits for an afternoon en route to the nearby Bala Wildlife Sanctuary. Anyone traveling to this area should be aware of the travel advisory for extreme south Thailand due to frequent insurgent activity, which has in the past been directed at government authorities but could in future affect visitors. Due precaution is warranted.

LOCATION OF SITE

Pha Pru is located just outside the Bala Wildlife Sanctuary in extreme south Thailand near the Malaysian border.
