ABOUT THE BIRDING

Posada Amazonas is a comfortable lodge surrounded by a private reserve on the Tambopata River of southeastern Peru. The lodge has a 30m scaffolding canopy tower for observing canopy birds and provides boat trips to the Tres Chimbadas oxbow lakes where Giant Otter and numerous bird species can be observed. An extensive network of trails through primary and secondary forest offers excellent birding. There are also good stands of bamboo that are home to the various bamboo specialists of the upper Amazon headwaters.

LOCATION OF SITE

Posada Amazonas is reached by a 45-min drive from Puerto Maldonado in Peru to the boat launch on the Tambopata River and then a 1-hour motorboat ride up the river.
