ABOUT THE BIRDING
Cruz Conga is located in a semi-arid area between Cajamarca and Celendin. Several species are of special interest there. The cajamarcae race of Rufous Antpitta is a likely future split as Cajamarca Antpitta. In the scrub along the road possibilities include Striated Earthcreeper, the rare but regularly seen in this area White-tailed Shrike-Tyrant, Jelski's Chat-Tyrant, the very rare and endangered Plain-tailed Warbling-Finch, and Rufous-eared Brush-Finch. Playback is very helpful in finding several of these species including the antpitta and shrike-tyrant.
