Tocumen Marsh was once an excellent place for seeing savanna and wetland birds, but the habitat has been significantly degraded since it was converted into a rice plantation in 1983. Nevertheless, it is still a good place to look for wetland birds and raptors. Some notable species include Cocoi Heron, which is at the northern-most extent of its range here, Capped Heron, Pale-bellied Hermit, and Pale-breasted Spinetail. It's also a good place to look for the secretive Little Cuckoo and Striped Cuckoo, both being skulkers found in scrub habitats of the western lowlands and Darien Province. Driving the roads at dusk can reveal White-tailed Nightjar and Stiped Owl as well as the more common Pauraque.
