Willie Perez is a master birding guide with over 10 years experience guiding professionally organized birding tours. He began his guiding career working 4 years as resident guide at Maquipucuna Reserve on the west slope of the Andes. He then went to Costa Rica to work on a research project. After returning to Ecuador, he worked as a guide at Kapawi Lodge in the Ecuadorian Amazon for 3 years, which is the the only way to master the art of finding and identifying the many secretive birds found in the lowland rainforest. Willie has since guided throughout Ecuador including Mindo Valley, the eastern Andes, the Amazon Basin, the Galapagos Islands, and southern Ecuador. During the last few years he has also been guiding birding groups in Bolivia. Willie is married to a British woman and has travelled several times to England to visit family and go birding there. He speaks perfect English and has an engaging and outgoing personality that makes every tour he leads enjoyable and fun. We greatly enjoyed his company while birding in Ecuador with him and were impressed with his skills at finding and identifying birds even under the most difficult conditions. We were also impressed with his great knowledge of bird songs and vocalizations. He is adept at helping participants spot the birds in even the most dense foliage.
