Wilfred Mutrie is native Belizean, born a Creole in San Ignacio. He was raised as a mechanic but began guiding fishing and birding groups about 10 years ago. He was mentored by H. Lee Jones, author of "Field Guide to the Birds of Belize", and assisted with producing Lee's field guide. Wilfred is a qualified expert birding guide with extraordinary ability to spot birds in dense foliage. He has an excellent knowledge of bird vocalizations and distributions within Belize. When not guiding, Wilfred works as Chief Avian Technician for the Harpy Eagle Project in the Bladen area of southern Belize supported by the Belize Foundation for Research and Environmental Education (BREE). Wilfred speaks perfect English and is fluent in Spanish as well as Creole. His outgoing personality and wonderful sense of humor make every tour he guides a most enjoyable experience.
