The Galapagos Islands are a paradise for bird photographers because the birds are tame and easily approached. The itinerary of a Galapagos tour is critical, as some species of both seabirds and land birds are present on only one or a few islands. We try to visit a combination of islands that allows us to see and photograph the full variety of seabirds and most or all endemic land birds during a week-long cruise. New rules that went into effect in 2012 restrict itineraries much more than in the past. We feel that our itinerary is the best available for a 7-day cruise in that it covers the majority of important islands including Genovesa, Santiago, Santa Cruz, Española, and San Cristobal. It's critical that participants register at least 6 months in advance to ensure a place on the tour. Every season is different in the Galapagos. We consider June to be an excellent time to visit as the Waved Albatross nesting colony is in full swing, courtship and nesting of many other seabirds are also taking place, and the seas are calm.
