Podocarpus National Park
East Andes Tropical Forest
Ecuador Birding Destination

The Podocarpus National Park is located south of Loja in southern Ecuador. The higher elevation Cajanuma section of the park is about 15 km south of Loja, while the lower elevation Rio Bombuscaro section is near Zamora some 60 km east of Loja. The road from Loja to Zamora descends steeply, traversing all the altitudinal zones between puna and subtropical forest, but much of the land has been denuded by logging and agricultural activity. The best birding is in the lower section of the Old Road and in the park itself.
