ABOUT THE BIRDING

The Red-fronted Macaw Reserve is a 124 acre site created to protect the most important breeding cliff of the threatened Red-fronted Macaw. There is an ecolodge on the site and is situated across the river from the cliff. Cliff Parakeets, a possible split from Monk Parakeets, Yellow-chevroned Parakeets, Turquoise-fronted Parrots, a rare visitor, and Mitred Parakeets. are also found on the same cliffs. The surrounding desert is home to a variety of interesting arid country spsecies including Bolivian Earthcreeper, White-tipped Plantcutter, Gray-headed Elaenia, Gray-bellied Shrike-Tyrant, Moss-backed Sparrow, and Black-and-chestnut Warbling Finch. Advance reservations are required to visit the lodge.

LOCATION OF SITE

The Red-fronted Macaw Reserve and lodge is located near the town of Perereta, 282km (6½ hours) east of Santa Cruz and 253km (4½ hours) southeast of Cochabamba in Bolivia.
