ABOUT THE BIRDING

The Old Coroico Road is one of the most spectacular old roads in South America. The old road was carved into the cliff face and was not for the faint of heart. Now there is a new highway connecting La Paz to Coroico. The old road, also known as the Death Road, branches off from the new highway about two-thirds of the way between La Paz and Coroico. The road offers a transect through high altitude puna grassland through cloud forest to subtropical Yungas forest. It's possible to bird the upper and lower roads without traveling along the entire old road by entering the road from the upper or lower ends from the new highway.

LOCATION OF SITE

The Coroico Road is the main road linking La Paz and the town of Coroico to the northwest.
