ABOUT THE BIRDING
Barba Azul Nature Reserve protects the only sanctuary for the critically endangered Blue-throated Macaw. It's the only area within the Beni of Bolivia where one can visit old-growth naturall tall-grass savanna undisturbed by cattle grazing. Other specialty savanna birds found there include Sharp-tailed Tyrant, Streamer-tailed Tyrant, Black-backed Water-Tyrant, Cock-tailed Tyrant, and Long-tailed Reed Finch. The savanna is also home to several mammals including Giant Anteater, Jaguar, Maned Wolf, and Marsh Deer.
LOCATION OF SITE
Barba Azul Nature Reserve is difficult to reach by road even in dry season. It's best reached by chartered flights arranged through the reserve.
