The primary goal of our photography tour to Costa Rica is capturing images of two very photogenic birds, namely Scarlet Macaws and Resplendent Quetzals. In addition, we'll also have opportunities to photograph hummingbirds, trogons, tanagers, and other colorful tropical birds as well as monkeys, poison dart frogs, and tropical flowers.
Our first stop will be Lookout Inn on the Osa Peninsula of southern Costa Rica. This lodge offers great vantage points to photograph Scarlet Macaws from above as they perch in the trees and fly about the bluff below. We'll also photograph several species of hummingbirds at lodge feeders and visit the lagoon below to photograph tiger herons and other aquatic birds.
We then spend two nights at lovely Luna Lodge near the entrance to Corcovado National Park. The lodge offers opportunities to photograph trogons, tanagers, and other birds as well as monkeys and frogs along trails through its private primary rainforest reserve and on the lodge grounds. A local guide will join us on our walk through the rainforest to find and identify subjects for our photography.
After flying back to San Jose, we'll transfer to the beautiful valley of San Gerardo de Dota high in the Talamanca Mountains south of the city. There at lovely Savegre Mountain Lodge, we'll enjoy wonderful food and spend our time photographing Resplendent Quetzals, one of the world's most spectacular birds. We'll also have an opportunity to photograph a variety of other highland specialty birds including hummingbirds at feeders and the elegant Long-tailed Silky-Flycatcher. Our local bird/naturalist guide will assist us in finding and identifying subjects for our photography during our stay at the lodge.
