Macaws & Quetzals Photography Tour
2009 Costa Rica Bird & Nature Photo Tours

We gather at Hotel Aeropuerto, where we'll spend the first night of our tour. The following morning we fly from Pavas Airport to Puerto Jimenez and are transferred to Lookout Inn, where we'll spend our next 2 nights. We then continue on to Luna Lodge at the end of the road in Carate, where we'll spend the next 2 nights. From there we fly back to San Jose, where we transfer to the valley of San Gerardo do Dota in the Talamanca Mountains, where we'll spend 2 nights at lovely Savegre Mountain Lodge before returning to San Jose for a final night back at Hotel Aeropuerto.

LOOKOUT INN

Lookout Inn near Corcovado National Park in Costa RicaLookout Inn is located near the end of the road to Carate not far from Corcovado National Park on the Osa Peninsula of southern Costa Rica. The lodge is situation on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean and offers superb opportunities for seeing and photographing Scarlet Macaws as they fly below the balcony of the lodge along the bluff. The restaurant features local and international cuisine prepared by the chef from locally grown fruits and vegetables. The chef prepares home-made breads, hot and spicy sauces, and desserts. Main courses feature fish, chicken, and pork.

Room at Lookout Inn near Corcovado National Park in Costa RicaAccommodations include guest rooms in the main lodge overlooking the bluff and private rooms in cabanas. All feature private bath with hot water and queen-sized beds. The concrete construction and tall ceilings in the main lodge keep the rooms cool and quiet. The rooms in the cabanas are also well ventilated and feature private balconies with views of the forest.

LUNA LODGE

Luna Lodge near Corcovado National Park in Costa RicaLuna Lodge is located at the end of the road in the very small village of Carate on the southern edge of Corcovado National Park on the Osa Peninsula of southern Costa Rica. The lodge is situated in the midst of 150 acres of privately owned primary rainforest. In addition to seclusion and great access to birding and photography in the rainforest, the lodge features a full bar, restaurant, library, and swimming pool. The restaurant offers international cuisine. Specialties include home-made breads, fresh organic fruits and vegetables, native dishes, natural juices, and tropical libations.

Room at Luna Lodge near Corcovado National Park in Costa RicaMany rooms are in private thatched-roof bungalows, while some recent additions are in an hacienda-style lodge. Each room provides 2 double beds, private bath with shower and bath tub, and private deck. The rooms are well-ventilated through large windows and stay cool because the lodge is at higher elevation than the village of Carate. There are few problems with insects because a perpetual light breeze from the river valley below keeps them at bay.
