The Tapichalaca Forest Reserve is located immediately south of Podocarpus National Park along the Quebrada Honda Trail on the east slope of the Andes Mountaints below Cerro Tapichalaca. It lies approximately 50 km from Vilcabamba in southern Ecuador. The dirt road from Vilcabamba become progressively worse as one travels south but is passable. Valladolid is approximately 11 km south of the reserve and offers very basic lodgings but closer access to the reserve.
