San Isidro
Middle Elevation of Eastern Andes
Ecuador Birding Destination

The Quijos Valley where San Isidro is located is the western-most headwaters of the Amazon Basin. Trails through the well-preserved Montane Humid Forest are often muddy, depending on time of year, but provide great access for middle elevation birds. In addition, hummingbird feeders and numerous trails in the private forest reserves of Cabanas San Isidro where our Exotic Birding tour is based offer great birding opportunities. Rare mammals such as Spectacled Bear, Mountain Tapir, the endangered Night Monkey, and Puma are still sometimes seen in the area. The most accessible lek of Andean Cock-of-the-Rock in Ecuador is located just a 20-minute walk from the cabinas on this private reserve.
