The primary focus of our photography tour to Costa Rica is capturing images of two very photogenic birds, namely Scarlet Macaws and Resplendent Quetzals. In addition, we'll have opportunities to photograph hummingbirds, trogons, tanagers, and other birds along with monkeys, poison dart frogs, and other subject matter. Our tour will be led by nature photographer Laura Fellows plus an established Costa Rican expert birding guide.
Our first stop will be upscale Luna Lodge near the entrance to Corcovado National Park on the Osa Peninsula of southern Costa Rica. The lodge owns a substantial tract of land covered with lowland forest, where we'll have opportunities to photograph monkeys and a good variety of forest birds along the network of trails on the lodge property. The lodge also features hummingbird feeders that provide photo opportunities for us. Finally, the lodge is not far from the Pacific Ocean, where we can walk along the beach photographing macaws, parrots, monkeys, and other species that inhabit the adjoining forest.
We then spend two additional nights at nearby Lookout Inn. This lodge offers great vantage points to photograph Scarlet Macaws from above as they feed in the almond trees and fly among and above the trees below the balcony. We'll also have opportunities to photograph iguanas, mammals such as Coatimundi, hummingbirds visiting the feeders, and other birds such as the colorful Fiery-billed Aracari.
After flying back to San Jose, we'll transfer to the beautiful valley of San Gerardo de Dota high in the Talamanca Mountains south of the city. There at lovely Savegre Mountain Lodge, we'll enjoy wonderful food including fresh trout and spend our time photographing Resplendent Quetzals, one of the world's most spectacular birds. We'll also have an opportunity to photograph a variety of other highland specialty birds including hummingbirds at feeders and the elegant Long-tailed Silky-Flycatcher.
